Days 1 and 2
Day 1:
We decided today that we wanted a veggie garden. Mid day, we went to the co-op and I bought some seeds that I knew could get started (carrots, peas, corn, squash, zukes, cukes, radishes, and a few others). Our friend was kind enough to lend us his lawn mower. I mowed the yard and the plot that we chose to start the garden while D followed me with the tiller. Previous, the yard was prairie grasses, not to say that we have a huge yard since we mainly focused around clearing walk ways by the house. I took a shot at tilling, which ended up being easier than I thought it would be in clay soil. We layed compost on the garden bed and tilled that in, and as dusk approached, we planted our peas, beets, carrots, radishes, and zucchinis. We had hopes that the rain would come over night but instead we find ourselves going out there morning and night to water. Its not ideal, but it gives me an excuse to go out there and see whats new.
Day 2:
One of the theme houses at school, Moonbeam, was clearing out their storage space and I heard roomers of there being parts for a bicycle washing machine. It was an awesome nab! We are going to start working on it probably in the next week or so (Im hoping since I have no clean clothes!). I am really excited to get a work out while doing chores. Plus if it is successful, we save so much electicity and money not running a normal washing machine. How cool! We will even use gray water to wash with. While Im at it, I hope to build the bike blender I have been planning on so that I can make smoothies whenever wherever, but also just to say that I did it.
D's care is now full of stuff; empty bottles for the home brews, craft supplies for my new etsy ambitions, cross country skis, a washing machine, tie-dye necessities, and a bunch of other stuff found in storage. Getting all the supplies and feeling like the options are endless is very exciting. We talked today that if I work at the local restaurant, that D and I will never be able to see each other so we decided that we would both work at the berry farms this season and until then I will focus on things that make me happy such as knitting, sewing, brewing, painting, and so on.
I know this sounds like I am becoming a housewife. However, I dont feel thats the case. This next month will give me the chance to catch up on some things I have been wanting to do for a while as well as discover some new things about myself. Im excited to see where the summer takes us and what we will accomplish by the time fall rolls around. This will be a cool way to look back on the summer in review, learn from mistakes, and apload the accomplishments. I have a feeling that I am going to come out a new person.
Time to venture forward into the unknown.
